A Match Made in Cyberspace… Search Engines, Blogs and RSS
Want more traffic to your web page or blog? Need an easy way to distribute your news? Then you need an RSS news feed. Considered the new SEO wildcard, webmasters are using RSS to hotwire their sites to the major search engines such as Google, Msn and Yahoo. RSS is HOT, and it’s marketing's next big wave!

What is RSS? Really Simple Syndication is a lightweight XML format that constantly scans the content of a website for updates and then broadcasts those updates to all subscribers through a feed.

RSS feeds are typically used with news sites or blogs, although any website can use them to disseminate information. When an update is sent out, it includes a headline and a small amount of text, either a summary or the lead-in to the larger story. You will need to click a link to read more.

Where’d it come from? RSS originated in 1997 by UserLand. It was first used by news sites to send updated headlines and brief summaries to all interested parties.

Who’s using it now? Microsoft has just announced the Next Windows will have RSS. Google has put out XML powered Sitemaps and Google Blog Search. RSS is very popular in the Blogosphere because blogs are usually written in XML or RSS format so that the headlines and postings can be easily read and accessed.

What are the Benefits? It’s the perfect communication tool with applications that far outreach those of email for marketing, publishing and personal communications. RSS gives your site added visibility on the web and a greater presence in the major search engines.

How do you get started? All you need is content you want broadcast and one RSS text file. But you must optimize or position your site to take full advantage of the RSS wildcard.

Strategies for optimizing your site for RSS Positioning (Titus Hoskins: bizwaremagic.com)

1. Build RSS feeds and blogs for your keywords
Set up a blog and RSS feed for each of your major keywords.
Have a separate IP address for each of the blogs, different from your site’s IP address.
It’s best to use ‘unique content’ in these blogs and make sure you link only to high PR quality sites.

2. Ping your blogs regularly
Alert the search engines that new content has been added to your site or blog to get them spidered and indexed quickly in the major search engines. Pinging is simply sending out a signal to all the weblog tracking sites that your site/blog has been updated.

3Add RSS Feeds to your site
Place high quality RSS feeds on your site related to your subject area. Use these feeds to provide valuable content to your visitors.

You’ll find a lot of free help online to get your website or blog hotwired with RSS. You don’t need to buy a thing.
