What are the most popular database tool functions
and features sought after by data professionals? A
recent study gives a glimpse of what’s on the hot
list for database marketers these days.
According to the study, “The Evolving Role of the
Data Professional – 2007 and Beyond,” by Embarcadero
Technologies and Unisphere Research, the most
popular function respondents seek in their database
tools deal with monitoring the performance and
availability of their databases (78 percent).
Another 69 percent said they require backup and
recovery capabilities for managing their data
environments. The third-ranked feature most desired
by database professionals is SQL tuning, which helps
databases find optimum execution paths for queries,
the study notes. This is a key capability for
getting the most out of databases before considering
more expensive hardware and software upgrades.
