Firm Taps Web for Data Accuracy
Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Company has insured
people for 70 years. The Glenview, Ill.-based firm
offers life, accident, health, credit and special
risk insurance programs. The firm is licensed to
conduct business in 49 states, including the
District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
About a year ago, the insurance firm decided to do
something about cleaning up its large-sized customer
database of about 100,000 records. The insurance
firm had its agents enter their client’s information
into a website. After the address is entered, the
firm would send out company information, membership
cards, booklets and pamphlets about their insurance
policy offerings.
But the company experienced a lot of returned mail
as a result of address errors found in its database.
One of the most common errors were unknown street
names, says Julia Perchak, a project leader at
Guarantee Trust Life Insurance. So, the agency
tapped Melissa Data for its Data Quality Web Service
(DQWS).
DQWS validates, standardizes and enhances contact
information in real-time, at the point of entry or
in batch mode. The service specializes in catching
data entry errors. Addresses are verified and
standardized by Melissa Data’s Address Object, which
is powered by USPS® CASS Certified™ engine.
Perchak says using DQWS has helped the company by
reducing the number of returned mail. The insurance
firm verifies addresses in real-time – sometimes at
a rapid frequency of about 50 or 60 times a day. “We
are pleased with the product,” she says.
