Driving the Need for More IT Personnel?
Good news – companies are planning to add more IT
personnel to their rosters during the fourth quarter
of 2006. What is driving the need for more IT staff?
Which overall job category is experiencing the most
growth within the IT departments?
A new report from Robert Half Technology, an IT
professional provider, states that the job category
experiencing the most growth was help desk/end-user
support (19 percent), followed by networking at 18
percent and applications development was third with
12 percent.
According to the report, 13 percent of CIOs (chief
information officers) polled plan to add IT staff
during the last quarter of this year, while 3
percent anticipate cutbacks. The report states that
a net 10 percent hiring increase is unchanged from
the third quarter forecast.
The report states that the following are the primary
factors driving the need for more IT personnel:
• Business growth 40%
• Increased customer support 23%
• ERP installation 19%
• System upgrades 10%
• Information security 2%
• Regulatory compliance 2%
• Other don’t know 4%
