Tip
of the Month: The Lowdown on Address and Address2
The Address and Address2 lines are the lifeblood of
your database. In this issue’s Tip of the Month,
Admound Chou reviews exactly how they are handled in
Address Object.
The Address input should contain the street address,
the suite (if any), and/or a private mailbox. This
is all the USPS® needs from an Address. The Address2
input can contain other information about the
address or recipient, but will not be used by the
USPS for delivery. See the examples below on how
Address Object handles the Address and Address2
line.
Possible Inputs: Address, Address2, Suite
Address Object allows you to input the address in
several different ways. You may put the suite in the
“Suite property,” at the end of the address in the
“Address property,” or in the “Address2 property.”
In addition, if you have a valid address in the
Address2 field, but invalid text in the Address1
field,
Address Object will swap these two fields for you
and validate the address.
Possible Outputs: Address, Address2, Suite,
PrivateMailbox
Address Object will parse the suite and the private
mailbox out of the address if the address is
validated. For the complete address line on a
letter, you would want to combine the Address,
Suite, and PrivateMailbox fields. The Address2 field
will always be returned back to you in the Address2
field (unless it was swapped) unchanged.
