How to Clean Up International Data

Cleaning up your customer database of bad and undeliverable addresses can eliminate excess waste and postage and lower costs for your business. Accurate data ensures that your mail is delivered on time, to the right person. In the Canadian arena, this thought process rings true as well. Now, there’s a new cross-platform product that makes Canadian address validation easier than ever.

If you’ve got some pieces to mail on an international level, Canadian Address Object helps validate, correct and standardize Canadian addresses in your database both in real time and in batch mode. The addresses are matched against Canada Post’s (the country’s version of the U.S. Postal Service) Postal Code Address Data file, which stores more than 10 million addresses in about 6,990 municipalities.

Melissa Data offers Canadian Address Object as an add-on to its successful Address Object line, and as a cross platform service, meaning it’s available for use on Windows, Linux, Solaris, HPUX and AIX. Canadian Address Object also catches customer data-input errors.

Canadian Address Object’s cross platform service is compliant with Canada Post’s Address Accuracy Program, which is designed to encourage mailers to correctly address their mail. The cross platform version also is Software Evaluation and Recognition Program (SERP) certified and produces Canada Post’s Statement of Accuracy (SOA) – all of which are required for postal discounts.

Why is it important to be SERP certified? Because the SERP testing program was designed to evaluate software packages on their ability to validate and correct mailing lists to Canada Post requirements. If your software is SERP certified, your package will be listed and officially recognized by Canada Post.

Can’t figure out if your Canadian addresses are correct?
