 Ask Our Experts
Q: I do not understand what “ACO3” means in my results? Is there an easy way to tell what the results code means? Admound Chou, Product Development Manager, Data Quality Solutions

A: Melissa Data offers results codes for each returned address so that our customers could know exactly what was changed in their address fields. But sometimes, due in part to the addition of new results codes, it becomes difficult to understand what each results code means.

You can always browse our support site ( and learn what each results code means, and learn the significance of it. But now we have made it even easier for our API customers to get an accurate description of our results codes by calling a new property.

For all of our local API customers, we have recently introduced a new property that will allow you to quickly and easily get a results code description for any of our returned results codes. It is as simple as feeding the new GetResultsCodeDescription() function with each individual results code and then setting whether you want a long Results Code description or short description.

An example for the Address Object in C# is as follows:

• Return a long description for results code "AC03" addrobj.GetResultCodeDescription("AC03", MelissaData.mdAddr.ResultCdDescOpt.ResultCodeDescriptionLong)\\Outputs: The locality (city, municipality) name was added or changed.

• Return a short description for results code "AC03" addrobj.GetResultCodeDescription("AC03", MelissaData.mdAddr.ResultCdDescOpt.ResultCodeDescriptionShort)\\Outputs: City Change

With the addition of this new function, you will always know what a results code means, as well as allowing you to write a more concise and clean program. Note that all of our local APIs have this function and are able to return results for any other of our APIs. Address Object will be able to return a description for a "PS01" returned from the Phone Object. Please also note that this new feature is only available for our DLL interface and not the COM interface on Windows.
