Division Uses Mail Software to Get Accurate
Higher education institutions take extra measures to
ensure data quality and accuracy. Take for instance
– California State University, Fullerton. The
school’s advancement division uses data cleansing
solutions to reach out to their vast alumnus
network.
In the past, the university used Melissa Data’s
email append service to verify the emails in its
alumni database network. The university’s
advancement division utilized email as a way to keep
in contact with its alumnus and potential donors, so
it was important to get the correct email address.
Now, the CSUF’s advancement office uses Melissa
Data’s MAILERS+4 software to validate and
standardize its database of more than 200,000
alumnus and potential donors. The software scrubs
data by verifying, correcting and standardizing the
delivery address information.
Valerie Nguyen, a database analyst and programmer at
CSUF’s advancement division, says they standardize
addresses using MAILERS +4 about four times a year.
The goal is to get all the addresses to be accurate,
as well as have the same format and look.
The advancement office uses the software to
standardize addresses, but not to send out mail
pieces. If the university sends a large volume of
mail, they will have a separate mail house complete
the task.
So far, the office is happy using MAILERS+4. “The
pricing was reasonable and using the software has
been very helpful,” Nguyen says.
