Retailer Uses New Homeowners Lists to Build Brand

Jack Patterson is the proud owner of Today’s Windows, a Newport News, Va.-based blind, windows and plantation shutters retailer. So to fuel strong word-of-mouth of his window treatments business, Patterson enlisted the help of Melissa Data.

Patterson uses Melissa Data’s New Homeowners Lists to reach new homeowners located throughout the Newport News area. Patterson says he targets new homeowners who are within a two to three different ZIP Codes™ radius of the city. He generally sends out postcards to about 150 new homeowners once a month.

So far, Patterson is pleased with using the targeted mailing lists. Numerous studies have shown that new homeowners are stable, credit worthy, have above average income – and most importantly – are willing and ready to buy. New homeowners are more likely to purchase home improvement and home decorative items.

Patterson has used the New Homeowners List for three months and is very optimistic about future results. Today’s Windows is not a brick-and-mortar retail store – it’s more of an in-house business in which Patterson visits the homes of potential clients to showcase his window products. So a strong word-of-mouth is critical to the success of his business. Patterson says using the mailing lists has been successful in building his company’s brand name among the local folk.
