Address Accuracy Rules!

The most important element in direct mail communications is using an accurate address for your intended recipient. It doesn’t matter if your mail piece is beautiful, has a great offer, a stunning design, or a strong call to action. If you don’t have an accurate, deliverable address, what happens? No response. Not to mention wasted postage, paper, printing, your valuable time, and money. The holiday season may or may not be your organization’s busiest time for direct sales and marketing initiatives, but even if all you do is send a thoughtful holiday communication to your valued customers, you want it to reach them, right? So this is certainly not the time to disregard address hygiene initiatives. If you have not scrubbed, updated, and deduped the records in your customer/prospect database in the last six months, guess what? It’s so hohoho time!

United States Postal Service logo The POSTNET Barcode will be permanently retired on January 28, 2013, along with the associated automation price eligibility based on the use of POSTNET barcodes on all types of mail. You can read the official posts from the USPS® on the Postal Explorer® website under Federal Register Notices. In addition, the USPS has posted an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to encourage Full-Service Intelligent Mail barcode (IMb®) adoption by making it a requirement for automation rates, beginning in January 2014.
