Water Distributor Standardizes Address Database
DS Waters of America, LP, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, is
one of the largest home and office bottled water distributors in the
nation. DS Waters’ bottled water products include the following
regional brands: Alhambra®, Belmont Springs®, Crystal Springs®,
Hinckley Springs®, Kentwood Springs®, Sierra Springs® and Sparkletts®.
With so many brands and customers under its umbrella, it was
important for DS Waters to maintain a clean customer address
database. That’s why DS Waters contacted Melissa Data to utilize its
MAILERS+4 software, which verifies, corrects and standardizes
delivery address information.
The water giant started using MAILERS+4 about a year ago. DS Waters’
goal was to consolidate its computer systems into one main database.
Jeff Daley, an IT business analyst at DS Waters, stated the company
wanted to make sure all of its customer information was correct and
standardized as DS Waters’ systems merged into one main database.
Over the course of approximately eight months, DS Waters corrected
in excess of 1.2 million addresses using the MAILERS+4 software.
Daley acknowledges that it was a unique way of using the software,
but “it got the job done and produced the same results.” Most
MAILERS+4 users utilize the software to correct addresses, but users
can also presort and process mailings, and print labels from their
computers. DS Waters used the software to simply standardize its
database.
“We like the fact that we can bulkload our files, take in huge
spreadsheets of data, and easily convert them,” Daley says.
One of the most common database errors were addresses which were not
standardized, some addresses missing ZIP Code™ information and
misspellings of cities or states. Daley notes that he liked how the
software provides an extra nugget of information, such as including
county information as part of its functions.
Before using MAILERS+4, DS Waters had to manually clean up its
address database, which took a lot of time and used more manpower as
a result. “[Using MAILERS+4] was a huge timesaver for us,” Daley
says. “What took several temps to clean up addresses, Melissa Data
did in a couple of hours.”
