Melissa Data Announces 64-Bit Release of Address Object™
for HP-UX and AIX Platforms
Data validation tool checks postal addresses
in real-time to eliminate delivery waste and save money RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. (March 6, 2007) — Melissa Data, a
leading provider of data quality software and services, today
announced the release of their new 64-bit versions of Address Object
– now available for UNIX® users of both the Hewlett-Packard and the
IBM versions of the operating systems, HP-UX and AIX. Address Object
now functions across multiple platforms including Windows, Linux and
Solaris to give programmers and developers greater flexibility and
extensibility for data hygiene. These new 64-bit versions allow
companies operating big iron 64-bit servers the ability to maximize
the performance of their enterprise software.
Address Object is a tool used to verify addresses, in real-time or
batch processes, by comparing the address submitted against the U.S.
Postal Service® database of 145 million deliverable addresses. Using
this filtering tool helps protect against fraud, waste and excess
mailing costs by cleaning a company’s database of inaccurate,
incomplete, or undeliverable addresses.
“Melissa Data is pleased to offer these new APIs for HP-UX and AIX
operating systems,” explains Melissa Data president, Ray Melissa.
“These new 64-bit versions take data validation to a whole new level
of enterprise compatibility. Once again, no matter what platform you
choose to use, Melissa Data has an enterprise-class data quality
solution that can correct, validate and enhance your data – at a
price you can afford.”
Once an address is verified, corrected, and standardized to USPS®
specifications, a ZIP + 4® code is appended to the record. Address
Object then links the address to a time zone, congressional
district, and county. Address Object also returns latitude and
longitude coordinates, which can be used to calculate distances to a
dealer, store or service location.
The benefits of data cleansing can be measured in accurate mailing
and shipping deliveries, successful target marketing, effective CRM
campaigns, and reliable storage of data. One popular use of Address
Object is to catch data input errors or fraudulent entries that are
common in e-commerce or Web site applications.
DPV™ and LACSLink™ now included
The U.S. Postal Service® has notified vendors and users of CASS
Certified™ address correction software that mailings will receive
CASS-related discounts only if the DPV (delivery point validation)
process confirms the address exists to the actual point of delivery,
down to the apartment or suite number. The DPV file is updated
monthly and consists of over 145 million addresses delivered to by
the USPS. Melissa Data’s Address Object now includes DPV at no extra
cost to virtually eliminate undeliverable-as-addressed (UAA) mail
and provide significant savings on production, postage and labor
costs.
In addition to DPV, this newest release of Address Object also
includes the USPS LACSLink file that runs concurrently with DPV. It
updates the addresses that have been converted from primarily rural
route, highway and box numbers to city-street style addresses,
further reducing the amount of undeliverable mail
