Melissa Data Releases Address Verification Tool for Linux

Data quality component corrects and enhances addresses in Web or PC applications.

Rancho Santa Margarita, CA—April 29, 2003—Melissa Data, a leading provider of data quality software and services, today announced the release of Address Object for Linux, which allows Linux programmers to add powerful address verification and enhancement routines to their custom PC or Web applications.

“Information quality is becoming a critical success factor not only for direct mail initiatives, but also for call centers, e-commerce, and CRM applications,” said Ray Melissa, president of Melissa Data. “By adding Linux to the operating platforms we support, we are reaching out to a growing segment of the server market with an affordable data quality solution.”

Address Object for Linux verifies addresses, in real-time or batch applications, by comparing the address submitted against the U.S. Postal Service’s database of 140 million deliverable addresses. Once an address is verified, corrected, and standardized to USPS specifications, a ZIP+4 code is appended to the record.

Address Object links an address to a time zone, congressional district, or county. Address Object also returns latitude and longitude coordinates, which can be used to calculate distances to a dealer, store or service location.

The benefits of cleansing and enhancing data using Address Object for Linux can be measured in accurate mailing and shipping deliveries, successful target marketing, effective CRM campaigns, and reliable storage of data. Address validation protects Web registration pages against data-entry errors and fraud.

Address Object for Linux is built with Shared Object technology to provide easy installation and fast, complete integration with existing components. The first object to be released will operate in any Linux environment supported by an Intel x86 platform.

Melissa Data’s Address Object engine is CASS-certified by the U.S. Postal Service for data accuracy. Address Object was originally developed for Windows.
