Melissa Data Launches E-mail Clean-up Tool

Product Review 2008 for Email Object
By Ken Magill

Data services firm Melissa Data Corp. has developed a tool to help keep typos from entering e-mail lists.

Dubbed Email Object, the new service verifies addresses before they go into marketers’ databases, according to the company.

“The first thing you have to do in email marketing is capture accurate data – it sets the stage for all future deliverability,” said Bud Walker, data quality tools product manager for Melissa Data, in a statement. “With Email Object you can remove invalid characters, as well as verify, correct, and update the domains of email addresses in batch or at point-of-entry to reduce undeliverable/bounce-back e-mails and increase response rates every time you hit send.”

People often enter “!” instead of “@” or mistakenly type double periods when entering their e-mail addresses, according to Melissa Data. People also often misspell their e-mail domain name.

Email Object checks for typos and checks the address against a list of more than 125,000 valid domain names to help ensure the address is valid, according to Melissa Data.

The tool starts at $1,295 per year.
