Positioning Your Ad in a Magazine

In mail order magazines, right-hand pages tend to pull and grab the reader's attention better than the left-hand pages. Because magazines impose a surcharge of 10 to 15 percent if you demand a specific position, the way to handle this situation is to say "Please," not "I must have." On the insertion order, write it this way: "right-hand page if possible." You may not get the positioning you want, but your chances increase greatly than if you had said nothing at all.
