Mailing Tips
That Save You Money

Avoid using street addresses and box numbers on the same envelope since they can have different ZIP Codes.

Always leave a barcode clear zone in the lower right of any letter-size envelope or card that is not barcoded.

Take the ZIP+4 rate on mailings of 250 or more pieces.

Combine mail going to a common destination into a single package and bring it to a central distribution area.

Don't hand write addresses. Hand written addresses do not qualify for automation discounts.

Print addresses with good ink contrast to make them machine-readable.

Transport mail to local Bulk Mail Centers (BMC's), Sectional Center Facilities (SCF's), or Destination Delivery Units (DDU's) to reduce postage costs substantially.

Put barcodes on all labels or print barcodes directly onto publications, since barcode rates are considerably less on all classes of mail

Make fonts and address characters the right size and shape for automated equipment.
